Minnesota defeated Notre Dame by a score of 5-2. It was the first appearance in the tournament for the Fighting Irish, who were coached by Dave Poulin. The Golden Gophers were coached by Don Lucia. Minnesota went on to lose to Minnesota-Duluth in the following round of the tournament.
