Mount Union defeated Wisconsin-Whitewater by a score of 35-28. The Purple Raiders, coached by Larry Kehres, finished their season with a record of 14-1. The game, known as the Stagg Bowl, was played at the Salem Football Stadium in Salem, Virginia. It was the first of two consecutive national titles for Mount Union, and part of eight championships in eleven years.
