North Carolina State defeated Georgia by a score of 67-60. The Wolfpack was led by Coach Jim Valvano and the top scorer in the tournament, Dereck Whiitenburg. North Carolina State went on to pull off one of the biggest upsets in sports history when they defeated Houston in the finals.
