Houston defeated Wake Forest by a score of 68-63. Houston was led by the All-American Team duo of Michael Young and Akeem Olajuwon. The second-seeded Cougars were coached by Guy Lewis, and the fourth-seeded Demon Deacons were coached by Carl Tracy. Houston eventually went on to lose to Georgetown in the final game of the tournament.
