The competition was won by Auburn University. Auburn scored 634 points, the most ever in the NCAA, and outscored their closest competitor by 256.5 points, the second largest margin in NCAA history. Auburn was coached by David Marsh. It was the fourth championship for the Tigers, and the second of five consecutive national titles.
